Bruce Edge, the third generation of the Edge family to run the business and his highly trained and skilled team of staff still operate from the original premises in Handbridge, Chester which Bruce’s grandfather opened in 1937.

Not that there is anything old fashioned in the Ernest W Edge & Son of today. It's impressive purpose built 30ft chilled glass counter, stretching the width of the shop is carefully stocked daily with the freshest cuts of meat and other produce.

Competitively priced, all meats are sourced as locally as possible and carry the Ernest W Edge guarantee of provenance.

We accept debit card payments and as a service to our customers we offer a free cash back facility on all orders over £5.

We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded a
5 star food hygiene rating, the highest standard for food hygiene from Cheshire West and Chester Council and that in October 2014 we were re-awarded the 5 star hygiene rating.

Butcher's Shop of the Year Awards Winner 2015

Bruce and his team are thrilled to announce that they have won the North of England Butcher's Shop of the Year category at this years' Butcher's Shop of the Year Awards 2015 the UK's premier butchery event that recognises excellence in craft butchery, with the winners entering an exclusive group representing the crème de la crème of British butchery.

They were announced as winners of the category at a prestigious award ceremony to celebrate the best in British butchery that was held in Leeds on 12th November.

After winning the North of England category Bruce and his team were shortlisted into the national final, where representing the North of England they were up against regional winners from the South of England, the Midlands, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and are very proud to announce that they finished as runner-up for the overall butcher's shop of the year.

The Great Taste Awards 2015

Bruce and his team are thrilled to announce success at The Great Taste Awards 2015.

Ernest W Edge & Son have been awarded a 2 star "Outstanding" for their Molasses Dry Cure Cheshire Streaky Bacon and a 1 star "simply delicious" for their Stuffed Tenderloin Of Pork.

Speaking shortly after the awards were announced Bruce Edge said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have won such a prestigious accolade with two of our best selling products. We decided to enter the Great Taste Awards for the first time this year as we felt that these awards were the ultimate place to test the quality of our products against a large and highly skilled judging panel. We believe that our products deserved recognition due to the quality of ingredients used and our determination to achieve the very highest possible standard."

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food. They were launched in 1994 and have been discovering exceptional food and drink for over 20 years. Acknowledged as the benchmark for fine food and drink, they have been described as the 'Oscars' of the food world.

Northern Independent Retail Awards 2015

We are really excited to have made the final six of the Northern Independent Retail Awards 2015 for best butcher in the North West.

As the only finalist from Chester we will be competing against butchers from Liverpool, Manchester and Preston in the final which is taking place on the 27th September.

 

Cheshire's 'Best Plain Pork Sausage' of 2015

We are delighted to announce that we have won Cheshire's 'Best Plain Pork Sausage' of 2015 at this year's Chester Food Drink & Lifestyle Festival which was held over Easter. For the last 7 years, butchers from across Cheshire have been competing to provide the perfect banger at the Chester Food Drink & Lifestyle Festival and this year's competition proved to be the most competitive to date.
